We're still here!

I'm so sorry to have left you for so long.  I just started to get behind more and more and then worried that I was too far behind to catch you up on everything!  But, thanks to Casey for letting me know that at least someone is still checking and wondering what's going on...!

SO, what's new?

Boo turns 10 months old tomorrow!
I can't believe it.  I'm deep in the midst of 1st birthday party plans and it just seems unfathomable.  My little girl just keeps growing and it's exciting and sad at the same time.  Those of you that are pregnant and reading this (I know there are a couple of you!), enjoy every moment you have in this stage.  Don't get me wrong, there's nothing better than having your child to hold in your arms, but there's just something so special about that time, the only time, that God allows you to help Him with a miracle.  I thank my wonderful mother-in-law for pointing that out to me when little Boo was still 'in my belly'.  How blessed are we to be given such a privilege!

Milestones
We have teeth!  Yep, that's plural!  Boo got her first 2 teeth pretty much at the same time.  We saw the first one (bottom right) then 2 days later the second one was right behind (and right next to it!).  Can you say FUSSY?!?  I remember just thinking, "Man, I love her to death but will she please just stop fussing!!!".  I didn't realize what was going on at the time, and in the end was glad to find out that it was teeth and not a permanent personality change.  Now, she's cutting her top 2 teeth and it's pretty much just like the bottom two.  The one on the right was coming in then we noticed that so was the one on the left.  She's fussy as all heck and it can definitely be wearing, but at least I know what's going on this time and how to deal with it (hello Tylenol & Ibuprofen!).  Poor little peanut.

We're working on the sippy cup!  Yeah, I say working because she still doesn't quite have it down.  I see her sucking and think that she's doing great then see that barely any is gone from the sippy - and all that's gone is on her or her bib!

We moved into 'drive' while crawling.  She was stuck in reverse for quite a while but a few weeks ago she found 'drive' and she hasn't looked back since!  Of course, just with all of her other major milestones, I missed it!  I was at a baby shower the afternoon that she crawled across a living room floor.  Oh well!

She's standing without holding onto anything for a good bit of time!  Our little Boo has been very interested in being upright, which is why I think she started crawling a little bit later.  She keeps getting a bit more courageous and likes to stand without holding onto anything.  To be more accurate, she likes to pick something up (a toy, a bill, anything on the table) and hold onto that rather than onto something sturdy.  She does pretty well with her balance!

She LOVES 'cruising' around the living room (holding onto furniture to walk around).  It's funny because she likes to walk completely around the coffee table and grab at everything on it.  Definitely need to work on keeping that clear...

She's sleeping in her big girl bed (crib) in her big girl room at night.  Yes, a lot of people think we waited way too long to make the switch, but in the end we are the parents and we decide when is best for all - for better or worse!  Nobody knows the situations we were in and I appreciate those of you who never questioned or gave me a hard time about it.  As with other things, no one knows your child and your situation better than you.  So!  She's doing well!  We haven't had any problems since the move, unless you count the fact that I'm sleeping a lot lighter now...  I'm sure that will get better as I continue to adjust.

First words?!?  We may have our first words but I'm still not sure yet.  She's been saying Da-da since the weekend before Father's Day and I think she's pretty close to using it discriminately (did I just make up that word?!?).  She might also being saying kitty (which sounds like 'di-ty').  We thought she said it when Badness 1 walked onto the carpet where we were playing with her.  Then the next day as I was making her lunch and had her in her chair watching the Signing Time DVD, I heard her say di-ty then came out to see what was going on.  Sure enough they were doing the sign for cat with pictures of cats on the tv.  Then later that afternoon as she was cruising around the table I pulled out one of her favorite books - animals - and when she saw it she said di-ty.  Yep, it was opened to the page with the kitten.  So I was pretty confident that might be her first word.  BUT, she didn't say it at all today even though there were numerous opportunities so who knows!

She did her first sign!  It took a while, but she's started waving.  She's still often a couple of minutes late but now at least she's doing it!  She also does the sign for 'all done'...  which coincidentally looks exactly like a wave!  She does seem to use it appropriately though which is really neat.  It's funny because she doesn't just use it at mealtimes.  Today we were grocery shopping and waiting in line to check out for a while.  She did the all done sign to let me know she was tired of it!  It was cute!

Fun

Boo met the rest of her Vermont family!  We were so glad to be able to visit our Vermont family last week.  It was hot as all heck and that definitely put a damper on things, but still can't take away the joy of being with family.  We are so blessed for all of our amazing family, in Vermont, PA, Ohio, Maryland, Tennessee, and Texas.

She likes playing in the water!  It started with the little pool at the bottom of the water slide at Aunt & Uncle's house in June.  She absolutely loved it.  Then in Vermont she was finally able to hit the real pool.  She was just a bathing beauty hanging out in her float.  So sweet!!

She likes chewing... on the crib!  Yep, I had just bought crib teething rails, but didn't quite put them on in time.  I could hear her gnawing down (and watch her on the video monitor) but since she was supposed to be down for a nap I didn't want to go in.  When I picked her up from her nap her face was covered in brown!  Teething rails - installed.

Medical
Actually, it's bed time so I'll update on the medical next time.  In short - she's doing pretty well.  Things could be better but they could also be a lot worse so we're happy with what we have.  More details later!

Thanks for sticking in there with me.  I plan on updating more often!

Milestone Moment - 1st Tooth!

Woohoo!!  We had another huge milestone moment yesterday!  Annabel now has her first tooth!

Yep, I learned the hard way... or should I say the painful way... when nursing last night.  Ouch!

Sure enough, I felt her bottom gum and there it was!  I haven't been able to see it yet, she's way too private about that.  :)

Here's a video of her eating part of her lunch today and trying out some skills for her new acquisition.

Aaah, rejoicing in every moment... For the Joy of it!

I'm joining Sharon over at Good, True, and Beautiful to share with others things that bring us joy.  Head on over for some more joyful moments!

"It's Great to See That...

... even though she's Failure to Thrive, it's not effecting her developmentally," said the Occupational Therapist that performed Boo's Multidisciplinary Evaluation on Friday.

YIPPEE!

We couldn't have asked for it to go any better.  I had noticed a few huge strides in Boo's development the past couple of weeks so I was already feeling good about it before they started the evaluation.

So, what do they do for a Multidisciplinary Evaluation for a 7 1/2 month old?!?  Play!  Yep, they give her different toys and watch how she uses them, how she interacts with the people, and ask me questions about behaviors that they can't observe.  They also watched her eat and put her in different positions to see how strong she was.

I will be receiving a typed report in a week or two, but they did give me a chart that shows where she lands within the Standard Deviation Scores.  Basically it's a chart with a gray area in the middle, white on top and white on bottom.  The gray area is where they should be, the white above would me that they are doing better than 'normal' and the white below would mean their skills are below 'normal'.  She scored right in the middle of the gray area for Adaptive (for skills that she uses to eat for example) and Communication (both Receptive and Expressive Language).  She was above average in Personal-Social, Motor (both Gross & Fine), and Cognitive Skills.  I was a bit shocked with the Personal-Social but she did well with them and she's been doing better with others.  She went to the nursery at church for the first time by herself on Sunday and did fantastic!

They were also really surprised with her strength and muscle tone.  They said that a lot of times you won't see that with Failure to Thrive babies.  But, she's a strong girl!

So, all good news!!

Since she is Failure to Thrive, we automatically qualify for services.  Since she doesn't need any assistance in any of those areas, I chose to only receive assistance from a nutritionist.  To start, we will have a nutritionist come out every 2 weeks and then it will decrease as needed.  Our goals are, of course weight gain, and to be able to get off of the Duocal supplement, among other smaller goals.

That's about it for now, I'm tired!
More updates to come!  :)

Updates!

There are no words to describe this cuteness...

Hi everyone!  I'm sorry it's taken me so long to post any updates.  I've been busy being Mom and trying to put more time into my money saving blog to get that going.

So... Boo has been doing great the past couple of weeks!  It finally seems like I have a "normal" baby!  When I say "normal", I mean without the health issues that she's had - she is of course an exceptional baby.  ;)

Boo's reflux has gotten SOOO much better.  It's hard to tell whether it's the new medicine or now being dairy and soy free that's really made the difference.  My guess is it's both.  She has not vomited in weeks, spitting up is rare, and "regurgitation" is minimal - not completely gone but a world of difference from before.  YIPPEE!!

Our follow-up appointment with the Gastroenterologist went well.  She was satisfied enough with her progress to NOT make us do the Barium Cookie Swallow - thank goodness!  The doctor wants her to be between the 3rd and 5th percentile before we start backing off the antibiotic or the calorie booster (Duocal).  Yes, that is third-fifth out of 100, not 10.  She's just a little peanut!

Her last weight was 12 lbs 10 oz and that was about a week and a half ago.  The specialist wants us to get her weight in a couple of weeks and call her with the info.  {That will be at 8 months - I can't believe she's already going to be 8 months!!!}  Then at 9 months she goes back to the pediatrician for her normal well-baby visit.  That will be in June.  The Gastroenterologist wants to see Boo in July and wants us to see the nutritionist again at that time too.

The bow was a last minute addition to add some 'girliness'

The service coordinator from AFIT came out on Monday just to do the paperwork.  It was just that - a bunch of paperwork.  She also explained what we will be doing a bit more.  She and an Occupational Therapist will be coming back out this Friday to do their assessment.  I will find out the results of the assessment at that time.  Then we will work together to come up with a plan for what services she needs and what her goals are going to be.  At this point I am very pleased with the progress she's made and really don't think we'll need any services other than the nutritionist.

I'm going to keep you hanging and checking back to hear more about the exciting progress that she's made the past couple of weeks...  She's such a big girl!

Make it a blessed Monday!  :)
